Maui, Hawaii was inhabited by the Polynesians. The Pi’i-lani Heiau Temple was build between 500-800 AD. In 1768, Queen Ka’ahu-manu was born. She was wife to King Kamehameha.

 

George Wilfong established Ka-‘uiki Hill’s sugar cane mill in 1849. Later sugar plantations included Kaeleku Sugar Company, Hamao, Kawaipapa, Hana Sugar Company, Reciprocity Sugar Company and Haneoo. 1946 ends the last of the sugar plantations.

 

Paul Fagan’s Hana Ranch was established in 1944. He is also attributed with erecting the Ka-‘uiki Inn. Charles Lindbergh is buried in Kipahulu. Maui, Hawaii annually celebrates Feast at Lele, a three course luau with Hawaiian, Tonganese, Tahitian and Somoan music and dance. Maui also enjoys Old Lahaina Luau with flower leis, tropical drinks and luau buffet. Also available are island crafts.
